Over 300 residents and visitors joined to celebrate Australia Day at the Foreshore Park, enjoying breakfast cooked by the Nannup Lions Club and Bret Furniss.  Shire President Tony Dean spoke of what goes into making a community, and how Nannup is a great example of people coming together for the common good.  Thanks to the choir for leading everyone in the Australian anthem, the Nannup Lions Club and Bret Furniss for the catering, Nannup Fruit for the donation of fruit, Richard Linden for the music and the Nannup Men’s Shed for set up and pack down. Shire President, Tony Dean presented the Australia Day Citizenship Awards.

The 2017 Senior Community Citizen of the Year was awarded to Jim Green.

Jim is a lifelong resident of Nannup and has been a community volunteer all of his life.  A charter member of the Nannup Lions Club, Jim has also been a long time member and active participant of the Nannup Bowling Club. More recently Jim has been involved with the Nannup Men’s Shed, working to raise funds for the club to build their own premises.

The 2017 Australia Day Award for the Community Group of the Year was awarded to the Nannup Men’s Shed.

The Nannup Men’s Shed has taken the dream of a shed and are currently turning this into a reality.  Securing temporary residence in the Community Kindergarten site, the group are now working in consultation with the Department of Education to secure land near Widdeson St.

The Nannup Men’s Shed has shown their willingness to contribute to projects around the townsite and involve themselves in other activities, fundraising for their own premises.  The men are a dab hand at sausage sizzles, regularly hold wood raffles and are called upon to assist with event set up and pack down.

The 2017 Australia Day Award for the Community Citizen of the Year was awarded to Felicity Machar.

Felicity is a pocket rocket who has arrived into Nannup with a great attitude and made such a difference for young children in the region.

The F.R.O.G.S Early Learning Centre was in need of new committee member and Felicity without hesitation joined as Secretary and then moving into the President position as it became available. Felicity is a member of the Nannup District High School P&C, and consistently helping out with organizing events for the school community. A regular at the school, she oversees the banking program, listening to children read and helping out with fundraising activities.

Felicity has worked tirelessly to bring Auskick back to Nannup for young aspiring football enthusiasts. This has also involved organising coaching, equipment and administration of Auskick.
