WASTE MANAGEMENT SHOP FRONT AND RECYCLING

04-Jul-2008
Council does accept recycling products and this position has not altered.

Some concerns have been reported to Council about if Council still provide a drop off recycling service and the operations of the “Shop Front” at the shed at the Waste Management Facility (WMF).

Recycling

Yes Council does accept recycling products and this position has not altered.  Recyclables must come in sorted and clean.  On some occasions the attendant may not be able to accept certain recyclables due to operational issues that may arise due to machine breakdown or handling problems.  When this occurs these items may need to be land filled to clear space in the shed.

Recyclables (that are kept in the shed) are now collected by a private contractor once per week and this why the shed now appears more tidy and not as full as previously was the case.

Shop Front – Reuse of Materials

This is still part of the operations of the WMF and the attendant at their discretion identify items that are of value and/or can be reused are stored at the shop front for a period of time.  If they are not reused within a reasonable time they are disposed of in the land fill.  This ensures that the shed is kept tidy and in a manageable condition.
