Community Access Plan
The Shire of Nannup has adopted the following community access plan to ensure that people with disabilities can access council facilities, functions and services. It is subject to annual review and may be amended and extended as priorities and needs change.
Nannup is a scenic community of approximately 1200 people nestled in the beautiful Blackwood River Valley 300km south of perth, and centrally located between the towns of Busselton, Margaret River, Manjimup and Bridgetown.
Historically, Nannup was a timber milling town and, while timber is still a major industry, the area’s natural beauty, together with its unique caracter and heritage, is becoming a popular tourist drawcard in the South West region.
The Community Access Planning Committee, (responsible for the development of the plan), decided that this document should be a “Community Access Plan” as opposed to a “Disability Service Plan”. The committee thought that this title more correctly reflects the desired outcomes required of the document, and would improve its acceptance and ownership throughout the community.
The plan includes:
- information on council functions, facilities and services (both in-house and contracted),
- a policy statement about council's commitment to addressing the issue of access for people with disabilities, their families and carers,
- a description of the process used to consult with people with disabilities, their families and carers and disability organisations and relevant community groups.
- the identification of objectives and strategies to overcome barriers that people with disabilities identified during the consultation process,
- dates and the identification of the persons responsible for the proposed strategies,
- a method of review and evaluation of the plan, and
- information about how the plan is being communicated to staff and people with disabilities.
