Payment Options & Methods

  • Two options are available to ratepayers for payment of rates:

Option 1 - Full Payment

If payment of rates is made in full by the due date you are eligible to enter the draw for the rates incentive prize.  For more information click here.

Option 2 - Four Instalment Payments

Ratepayers can choose to pay their rates in four instalments.  This option also includes an administrative fee and interest.  For more information see your rates notice or contact the Shire Office.

  • Payment can be made in person at the Shire Office at 15 Adam Street, Nannup by cash, cheque or EFTPOS.

If paying by mail, tear off the payment slip at the bottom of the rates notice and send it to PO Box 11, Nannup WA 6275 along with a cheque or a money order.

Payments can also be made by credit card over the phone on (08) 9756 1018 during office hours.

Rates Calculation

The rate in the dollar to be applied to properties is determined each financial year by Council and the raising of rates is governed by the Local Government Act 1995.

The amount of rates charged to properties are determined by the property valuation multiplied by Council's rate in the dollar.  The Valuer General values properties and provides this information to Council.  For more information on property valuations visit the Valuer General's website.

Pensioner / Senior Concessions

Ratepayers who hold a Pensioner Concession Card or Seniors Card may be eligible to claim a rebate of up to 50% of their rates or to defer the payment of their rates.

For more information see your rates notice or contact the Shire Office.

Late Payment Penalties

With the exception of eligible pensioners, late payment charges are accrued daily and will be charged on all rates and charges that remain unpaid after the due date.

Where rates are in arrears after 1 July in any given year interest will begin to accrue on all outstanding rates and charges including any interest that may have already accrued.

If the Shire takes legal action to recover outstanding debts all legal fees will be charged to the ratepayer.

Objections and Appeals

Appeals can be lodged against the accuracy of Council's rating details or the rating valuations used in assessing rates.  The appeals procedures vary but do not negate the normal ratepayer responsibilities to meet payments within the prescribed time limits.  Objections to valuations may be lodged within 60 days of the issue of the rates notice with: The Value General, 6th Floor Bunbury Tower, 61 Victoria Street, Bunbury WA 6230.

FESA Emergency Services Levy

Local Governments are collecting the Emergency Services Levy (ESL) on behalf of the State Government Fire and Emergency Services Authority.  All monies collected are sent directly to FESA.

The ESL is used to fund agreed operating costs and capital equipment purchases of the Career Fire and Rescue Service, Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service, Local Government Bush Fire Brigades, State Emergency Service and multi-service FESA units.  For more information visit the FESA website.
