Nannup Youth & Children

The Shire of Nannup offers programs aimed at early childhood through to young adults. Programs are delivered in a creative and nurturing setting and are aimed to cater to the various interests and needs of the participating individuals.

The Shire of Nannup Youth Space is located at the rear of the Town Hall on Grange Rd.  Community members who are interested in hosting youth activities are invited to contact the Shire office for more information.

After school art classes are offered throughout the year. In this program we aim to provide young people with the opportunity to explore different mediums and the opportunity to be creative in a fun and social environment. There is a small cost to participants which helps with the purchase of materials and afternoon tea.

Each school holiday, programs are scheduled offering a variety of activities including camps, day trips and workshops. The school holiday programs change depending on the time of year and interests. Information can be found at the Shire Office, around town or in the Telegraph and School Newsletters. Community members that would like to host activities as part of this program are invited to contact the Shire office.  All of the Shire of Nannup programs are inclusive and individuals with disabilities and special needs are encouraged to participate.

If you have any further questions, please enquire at the Shire Office.

Nannup Youth Zone!

Please note, the Nannup Youth Zone will resume for 2024 soon.

The Shire of Nannup and the Nannup Local Drug Action Group (Nannup LDAG) are very proud to facilitate the Nannup Youth Zone, in partnership with the Alcohol and Drug Foundation.

Our Youth Zone provides a safe space for Youths aged 12 (or Year 7)-17yrs in our community to come together. Offering a wide range of activities and experiences, the Nannup Youth Zone allows for skills advancement and hands-on training with participation in basic car maintenance, First Aid, barista training and much more.

Recognising that this isn't everyone's cup of tea, the Youth Zone also offers Youths the opportunity to make afternoon tea, sit and enjoy music with friends, play board games and garden. Throughout our afternoon sessions, the Nannup Youth Zone continues to provide up-to-date information and guidance to our Youths around the harms and consequences of participating in under-age Alcohol and Other Drug substances. Providing solid education whilst supporting the curious questions, providing positive direction and teaching skills in How To Say No, remaining steadfast and confident in their choices.

We are proud to be a supportive and inclusive community, and everyone is welcome. For those with additional needs requiring extra support, please note that our location is fully accessible, including ablution facilities.

Police Academy Trip, December 2022

In December, 2022 the Shire of Nannup alongside the Nannup Local Drug Action Group worked with the Nannup Police, and took a cohort of youth residents to the Police Academy in Joondalup. With not one "are we they yet?" we all had a fantastic time, and enjoyed ourselves immensely! Please enjoy the video production of our trip.

The Shire of Nannup has been successful in receiving funding from the Department of Sport and Recreation to administer the KidSport program.

KidSport makes it possible for eligible children to join a not-for-profit sport or recreation club, by contributing up to $200 towards paying club registration and other agreed fees.

To be eligible children must;

  • Live within the Shire of Nannup
  • Be aged 5 – 18 years
  • Have a Health Care Card or Pension Concession Card

If you do not have a Health Care Card or Pension Concession Card, but suffer from financial difficulty you may visit a KidSport referral agent to determine if you are eligible to receive funding.

Applicants can apply for KidSport funding to pay fees for a number of registered clubs. Funding is only available to cover fees of clubs that are registered for KidSport with the Shire of Nannup. The list of registered clubs is continually growing, if the club you would like to join is not currently registered, please contact Annie Crutchlow on 9756 1018 to discuss if it is eligible to become a registered club.

How to Apply:

  • Ensure you meet the eligibility criteria.
  • Complete the KidSport Application Form online at www.dsr.gov.au/Kidsport.
  • Parent/Guardian must complete all sections of the Application Voucher.

Validated application vouchers must then be presented to selected clubs to complete the registration process.
