Senior Citizen Social Club Kicks Off 2026 With a Full House and Fresh Updates

Published on Tuesday, 10 February 2026 at 4:26:36 PM

The Nannup Senior Citizen Social Club returned for its first gathering of the year on Tuesday, 10 February, bringing together more than 30 community members for a morning of connection, conversation and helpful information.

The session ran from 10am to 12pm in the Function Room, with plenty of lively discussion and updates on what’s happening around town.

Apryl Longford, Community Development Officer at the Shire of Nannup, shared the latest Shire updates and provided an overview of the ongoing Oral Histories project. Attendees enjoyed a six‑minute mini‑documentary showcasing highlights from the podcasts, and Apryl demonstrated how a QR code can be used to easily access the full collection. This project plays an important role in preserving Nannup’s local heritage for future generations.

The group also welcomed Warren Smith from St John Ambulance, who introduced the new Raizer lifting device now used by local ambulance officers. Warren demonstrated how the equipment helps safely lift a person from the floor to a seated position, offering increased comfort and dignity for those needing assistance.

Lorraine Learmond from the Nannup Public Library rounded out the morning with an update on what’s new in the Library. She highlighted the library’s accessible shelving, growing seed library, talking book collection, large‑print titles and more—reminding everyone of the many free services available to the community.

Next Fortnight: Chair Dancing and Morning Tea

The next Senior Citizen Social Club session will be held on Tuesday, 24 February 2026, featuring Chair Dancing with Lisa Driehuis from Chair Dancing Perth — a fun, gentle and fully inclusive movement activity perfect for all abilities. Morning tea will be provided by Loose Goose.

This session is proudly brought to the community by the Nannup Local Drug Action Group, with funding from the Alcohol and Drug Foundation.

The first gathering of 2026 has set a positive tone for the year ahead, with participants enjoying good company, a cuppa, and the chance to stay connected and informed.
