Minister Supports a Liveable Nannup

As part of the iconic Nannup Music Festival weekend, the Honourable Don Punch, Representative for the City of Bunbury and Minister for Regional Development, announced $50,000 of funding to assist the Shire of Nannup in creating a Master Plan to shape the town’s development over the next twenty years.

The 3rd of March 2023 announcement occurred at the Blackwood Café with over 70 community members and stakeholders present, including different sporting groups, Shire Councillors, non-for profits, community groups and local government. The $50,000 from the South West Development Commission, along with matched funds provided by the Shire of Nannup, will be utilised to build the arts, recreation, tourism and liveability Master Plan.

Regional Development Minister Don Punch states that "a focus will be identifying the future land and infrastructure development required to adequately cater for growth of the arts, recreation and tourism industries – as well as enhance liveability – in order to support opportunities for economic and community development.”

The Master Plan concept will explore all the possibilities that will enhance the arts, recreation, tourism and liveability in Nannup within the study area. This could include, but not be limited to, sporting facility upgrades, tourism features, housing options, community facilities or cultural and heritage investment.

The Shire of Nannup welcomes the funding and is thrilled to be able to build on previous work done building the Liveable Nannup concepts and Investment Prospectus to provide a vision directly influencing any future changes.

With the recent closure of the Native Forest Timber Industry, this project is key to the future prosperity of Nannup and attracting more investment, relocations and visitors alike to our community. Warren-Blackwood MLA Jane Kelsbie states "No one knows the community better than the people who live there, and I'd encourage locals to get involved in this opportunity to guide the future of Nannup."
