With spring underway, now is the time to prepare your property for the upcoming bushfire season by completing your bushfire prevention works and managing green waste.
Property owners and occupiers are reminded that the Bushfire Compliance Period and Inspections will commence on 3 November 2026. From this date, a permit will also be required for any burning activities undertaken within the Shire.

September and October are the ideal months to arrange contractors to carry out fire prevention works or undertake maintenance yourself before inspections begin.
Which properties require firebreaks?
✅ Urban Land properties larger than 2,024m²
✅ Rural Residential properties
✅ Rural Unmanaged properties
⚠️ Actively managed rural properties may not required perimeter firebreaks, although all owners and occupiers are encouraged to install strategic firebreaks to protect the property in the event of a bushfire. Compliance may be achieved through active fuel reduction measures such as grazing by an appropriate number of livestock, slashing, baling, or the implementation of a fuel reduction plan that demonstrates how fuel loads are being managed on the property.
General Firebreak Requirements
- Firebreaks must be constructed within 12 metres of property boundaries.
- Corner boundaries must have a firebreak width of 6 metres.
- Firebreaks must be 4 metres wide, with a minimum of 3 metres consisting of mineral earth.
- Trees and vegetation on both sides of firebreaks must be laterally pruned to a height of 4 metres.
Important Reminders
⚠️ All properties must maintain an Asset Protection Zone (APZ) around buildings year-round.
⚠️ If you are unable to meet the required standard for your property due to site constraints, access limitations, natural features, or other relevant circumstances, you may apply for a Variation Permit before 31 October 2026.
⚠️All firebreaks and bushfire prevention measures must be maintained from 3 November 2026 through to 30 April 2027. Inspections may be conducted at any time during this period.
