Our Role in Creating a Healthier Community

Local government plays an important role in creating a healthier, safer and more connected community.

Under Western Australia's Public Health Act 2016, every local government is required to prepare a local public health plan that aligns with the State Public Health Plan and responds to local community needs and priorities.

Public health planning is about preventing problems before they occur and creating environments that help people live healthy lives. This includes:

  • Supporting physical and mental wellbeing

  • Providing parks, recreation facilities and community spaces

  • Encouraging social connection and inclusion

  • Protecting food, water and environmental health

  • Managing waste, noise and public health risks

  • Listening to the community to identify local health priorities

By working together with residents, community groups and health agencies, local governments can develop practical actions that improve quality of life for everyone in the community.

Health and Wellbeing Plan 2027-2032

The Shire is currently preparing its next Public Health Plan for 2027–2032. The planning process has included a review of local health and wellbeing data, along with consultation with internal stakeholders. We are now seeking community feedback to help identify the health and wellbeing issues that matter most to our community, understand what is working well, and determine where we should focus our efforts over the next five years.

The survey will be open from 1 July to 31 July 2026. Community members can complete the survey online at: Health and Wellbeing Survey
