2026 Local Law Review s.3.16

Published on Monday, 31 August 2026 at 9:29:23 AM

Local laws play an important role in supporting a safe, healthy and well-managed community. They help regulate a range of activities within the Shire and provide a framework for protecting public amenity, safety and wellbeing.

The Shire of Nannup is undertaking a review of several local laws to ensure they remain current, relevant and aligned with community needs and legislative requirements.

Amendments introduced by the Local Government Amendment Act 2024 require local governments to undertake regular reviews to ensure local laws remain effective and fit for purpose.

Why Are We Reviewing These Local Laws?

This review will help ensure that the Shire's local laws:

  • Reflect current community needs and expectations;
  • Align with State and Commonwealth legislation;
  • Are practical, enforceable and easy to understand;
  • Support good governance and community wellbeing; and
  • Are not outdated, duplicated or unnecessary.

The Shire of Nannup is reviewing the following local laws:

  • Dog Local Law 2014
  • Health Local Law 2003
  • Parking and Parking Facilities Local Law 2007
  • Standing Orders Local Law 2010

Community feedback is an important part of the review process. We invite residents, property owners, businesses and visitors to provide their views on whether the local laws should be retained, amended or repealed.

This may include:

Amend

Making changes to a local law to improve its effectiveness, ensure compliance with current legislation, address operational issues, or better meet community needs.

Repeal

Revoking a local law if it is no longer required, has been superseded by other legislation, or is no longer considered appropriate.

Leave Unchanged

Retaining the local law in its current form where it remains effective and fit for purpose.

Your feedback will help inform recommendations that will be presented to Council for consideration.
