The strength of Nannup lies in its people.
Across the Shire, volunteers, community groups and local organisations dedicate countless hours to creating events, activities and opportunities that bring people together, support wellbeing and make Nannup a vibrant and welcoming place to live. Through the Shire of Nannup's Community Grants Program, Council is proud to support these grassroots efforts and invest in the ideas, projects and people that help our community thrive.
The program is specifically designed to support local initiatives, recognising that many volunteer-run organisations have limited access to funding opportunities despite the significant contribution they make to community life. By helping community groups deliver projects, events and activities, the program strengthens local capacity, encourages participation and fosters community connection.
Round 1 of the 2026/27 Community Grants Program attracted strong interest, reflecting the passion, creativity and commitment of local organisations working to enhance life in Nannup. The successful projects represent a diverse range of community interests, from arts and culture to heritage, business, social connection and community celebrations.
This year's successful initiatives include:
- Nannup District High School P&C, supporting the popular Christmas Carols by Torchlight event, which brings families and the wider community together to celebrate the festive season.
- Nannup Garden Village, creating decorations for the UCI Gravel Race, helping showcase Nannup and foster community pride.
- Nannup Historical Society, improving facilities and equipment to support the preservation and sharing of Nannup's rich local history.
- Country Women's Association, hosting a Seniors Christmas Lunch that promotes inclusion, connection and community wellbeing.
- Nannup Chamber of Commerce and Industry, delivering the Business Excellence Awards, celebrating the achievements and contributions of local businesses.
- Southern Forest Arts, presenting YUCK Circus – Naughties Tour at the Nannup Recreation Centre, bringing high-quality arts and cultural experiences to the community.
- Scott River Charity Ball Committee, supporting live music at its annual event, helping create a memorable community occasion while raising funds for worthy causes.
- Nannup Community Garden/Botanical Circle, supporting activities that encourage learning, sustainability, participation and community wellbeing.
Council also considered support for the Nannup Lions Shed Solar Power Installation Project. As the associated building works are still underway, the proposal will be revisited once the project is ready to proceed.
The successful projects highlight the extraordinary contribution made by volunteers and community organisations across the Shire. Whether organising events, preserving local history, creating cultural opportunities, supporting seniors, promoting local business or encouraging community participation, these groups play a vital role in shaping the character and vibrancy of Nannup.
Council extends its sincere thanks to all volunteers, committee members and community champions who generously give their time and energy to make these initiatives possible. Their dedication strengthens community connections, builds resilience and creates opportunities for people of all ages to get involved, learn new skills and enjoy a strong sense of belonging.
The Community Grants Program is about much more than funding projects. It is an investment in the people and organisations that help make Nannup a connected, welcoming and vibrant community. For many local groups, the program provides valuable support that enables ideas to become reality, helping organisations build their capacity, attract participation and continue delivering activities that benefit the wider community.
Community organisations are encouraged to start planning now, with Round 2 of the 2026/27 Community Grants Program opening on 1 September 2026 and closing on 31 October 2026. Groups with ideas that support community connection, participation, wellbeing, creativity, sustainability and local vibrancy are encouraged to apply.
By investing in community-led initiatives, the Shire of Nannup continues to bring the aspirations of the Shire of Nannup Community Strategic Plan 2021-2036 to life. Through the dedication of volunteers and the strength of local organisations, Nannup remains a vibrant, inclusive and resilient community, with opportunities for residents and visitors alike to connect, participate and thrive.
