Nannup Returns to the Tidy Towns Awards After More Than a Decade
The Shire of Nannup is proud to announce that Nannup has officially entered the 2026 Keep Australia Beautiful WA Tidy Towns Sustainable Communities Awards, marking the community's first entry since 2015
The Tidy Towns Awards recognise regional and remote communities that demonstrate excellence in community wellbeing, environmental sustainability, heritage preservation, leadership, waste management and community participation.
Nannup's 2026 submission showcases a diverse range of projects and initiatives that reflect the passion, dedication and community spirit that make Nannup such a special place to live, work and visit. The entry highlights achievements across nine award categories, featuring projects led by volunteers, community groups, local organisations, the school and the Shire of Nannup.
Among the projects submitted are the restoration of the Nannup Avenue of Honour, the Nannup Oral History Project, the Nannup Senior Citizens Social Club, Friends of the Foreshore environmental restoration activities, Containers for Change community fundraising initiatives, and environmental education programs delivered through Nannup District High School's Boodja Djena Bush School.
The submission also recognises outstanding local leadership, including nominations for Economic Development and Trail Town champion Nicole Botica in the Leadership category and local student Ruby Carstairs in the Young Legends category. Their nominations highlight the important role individuals play in building a strong, resilient and connected community.
Shire President Tony Dean said entering the awards provides an opportunity to celebrate the many people who work tirelessly behind the scenes to make Nannup a vibrant and sustainable community.
"While awards are never the sole reason for doing this work, the Tidy Towns Awards provide an opportunity to recognise and acknowledge the extraordinary contributions of our volunteers, community groups, businesses, schools and residents. This entry tells the story of a community that cares deeply about its environment, heritage and each other."
Community judging visits will take place in September, with finalists announced in October and winners celebrated at the State Awards in November.
The Shire would like to thank everyone who contributed to projects featured in the submission. From restoring heritage assets and preserving local stories to improving environmental outcomes and creating opportunities for social connection, these initiatives demonstrate the strength of community spirit that continues to shape Nannup's future
Nannup's return to the Tidy Towns Awards is not just a reflection of what has been achieved over the past year, but a celebration of the community's ongoing commitment to creating a welcoming, sustainable and thriving place for current and future generations.
