Nannup’s Main Street to Become an Open‑Air Museum for the Heritage Festival

Nannup’s main street will be transformed this April as part of the Southern Forests & Valleys Heritage Festival, with local shopfronts set to feature creative Heritage Window Displays from 18–26 April 2026.

For one week only, visitors and locals can wander the town centre and enjoy an open‑air museum experience, with windows showcasing historic photographs, memorabilia, local stories, and links to the Voices of Nannup Oral History Project. This vibrant trail of displays celebrates our region’s history while bringing extra colour, activity, and foot traffic to the heart of Nannup.

The initiative aims to create a welcoming and engaging atmosphere during the Festival, giving community members and visitors a chance to discover the people, places, and moments that helped shape our town. It’s a fun and visually rich way to explore Nannup, supporting local businesses and highlighting our growing commitment to heritage, creativity, and storytelling.

As we prepare to start five new Oral History Project stories, the displays will also promote earlier interviews. Each window will feature a QR code, making it easy for anyone to stop, scan, and listen to the stories behind the faces. Whether you’re doing your daily errands or taking a leisurely stroll, these windows offer a beautiful and accessible way to experience Nannup’s rich history.

If your Main Street business would like to take part in the Heritage Window Displays, please contact Apryl Longford at the Shire of Nannup on 9756 1018 or apryl.longford@nannup.wa.gov.au to register your interest.
