The Western Australian Department of Transport has introduced mandatory electric vehicle (EV) and hydrogen vehicle labels for all vehicles built or modified on or after 1 January 2019. These labels must be displayed on the front and rear licence plates. The initiative aligns WA with national Australian Light Vehicle Standards Rules and supports improved emergency response by helping first responders quickly identify electric, hybrid and hydrogen‑powered vehicles. Electric and zero‑emission vehicles provide significant community benefits, including reduced greenhouse gas emissions, improved air quality and decreased reliance on imported fuels.
