The Nannup Senior Citizens Social Club Luncheon, held on 26 May 2026, brought together 50 community members for a warm and memorable day of connection, good food and lively conversation.

Guests enjoyed cheerful old-time tunes from the lovely local musicians Steve and Gaye, setting a welcoming and nostalgic atmosphere for the morning. This was followed by a delicious roast lunch prepared by local favourites, Loose Goose, featuring roast pork with all the trimmings and a classic dessert of apple crumble and custard.

Kieren and Lyn from Loose Goose went above and beyond in their support of the event. Not only did they deliver an exceptional meal, they also generously assisted with washing up and ensured the kitchen was left spotless and ready for Janet and the volunteers preparing for the evening community dinner — a true example of community spirit in action.

The luncheon also offered a valuable opportunity for local discussion. Bevan Eatts MLA attended and spoke with guests, with seniors raising important topics including the need for increased seniors’ housing and improvements to local hospital services. Mr Eatts acknowledged the current challenges facing smaller communities and affirmed his commitment to advocate for Nannup’s needs.

Encouragingly, positive feedback was shared about the Shire’s Non-Urgent Patient Transfer Service, which continues to be a vital service supporting seniors to attend medical appointments and stay connected.

Another key theme raised was the ageing volunteer base — a challenge being experienced across many regional communities. The discussion highlighted the ongoing importance of supporting and valuing volunteers while continuing to explore ways to encourage broader participation.

CEO David Taylor reaffirmed the Shire of Nannup’s commitment to working alongside the community to support seniors and strengthen opportunities for connection, wellbeing and inclusion.

Overall, the luncheon was a wonderful celebration of community, bringing people together to share stories, raise important issues, and enjoy each other’s company — a reminder of the strong spirit that makes Nannup such a special place to live.
