Youth Zone Wraps Up a Fun-Filled Term Two

Youth Zone has wrapped up another successful term, with Apryl Longford from the Shire of Nannup and Shealie Tarr from the Nannup Community Resource Centre delivering six weeks of activities at the Recreation Precinct every Tuesday throughout Term Two.

With around 11 young people attending each week, the sessions were packed with fun, laughter and friendly competition. Participants enjoyed a range of activities including floor hockey, dodgeball and a dress-up obstacle course. To celebrate the final session, everyone came together to share pizzas and reflect on a fantastic term.

One of the highlights this term was our weekly scone-making activity. Each week, one participant was given the opportunity to learn how to make scones from scratch. Scones are a versatile recipe that can be enjoyed as a sweet treat or adapted into a savoury meal or snack. Everyone did an excellent job mastering the recipe, and there were plenty of delicious scones enjoyed along the way. Scones for everyone!

Looking ahead, Youth Zone participants will be taking part in an exciting photography project during the next term, commencing on 18 August. Each young person will receive a disposable camera and have the opportunity to explore different photography subjects and themes.

With a limited number of exposures available on each camera, participants will be encouraged to think carefully about the photographs they choose to take. This will help develop planning, observation and creative thinking skills while providing a unique opportunity to view the world through their own lens.

At the conclusion of the project, the photographs will be displayed to showcase the creativity, interests and unique perspectives of our local young people. The project will also serve as a trial for a potential annual photography competition, and we are excited to see the images and stories captured by participants.

Permission will be sought for any photographs featuring children. However, we are hoping participants will think creatively and explore a variety of subjects beyond selfies and photos of friends!

Youth Zone returns on 18 August, and we look forward to another fantastic term of fun, creativity and learning. Stay tuned to see what our young photographers capture! πŸ“Έ
