Community Helps Shape a More Accessible Nannup

Published on Thursday, 20 August 2026 at 1:31:43 PM

The Shire of Nannup recently hosted a community workshop as part of its ongoing Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP) process, bringing together residents and community members to share experiences, discuss accessibility and inclusion, and identify areas for future consideration.

The workshop provided an opportunity to reflect on progress, hear directly from the community, and gather ideas about how Nannup can continue working towards being a welcoming and inclusive place for everyone.

A range of perspectives and suggestions were shared during the discussion. Participants highlighted the importance of accessible facilities, inclusive community events, clear communication, safe movement throughout the town, and creating opportunities for everyone to participate in community life.

The conversation also reinforced the value of listening to people with lived experience and ensuring accessibility and inclusion remain ongoing considerations in the planning and delivery of community initiatives.

A Continuing Conversation

The workshop generated a broad range of ideas and opportunities for future exploration. While not all suggestions can be implemented immediately, the feedback received will help inform ongoing planning and decision-making.

The Shire recognises that improving accessibility is an ongoing journey and that meaningful change often happens progressively over time. Community input plays an important role in helping identify priorities, understand local needs and highlight areas where improvements may be possible.

As this work continues, the Shire will keep listening, recording community feedback and considering practical opportunities to improve access and inclusion wherever possible. New ideas and perspectives are always welcome.

Thank You

The Shire of Nannup thanks everyone who participated in the workshop and shared their experiences, ideas and feedback.
