A longβheld community vision is becoming a reality as construction continues on the Southern Bridges Shared Path Project. This important initiative strengthens Nannup’s reputation as a connected and welcoming Trail Town and delivers lasting benefits for residents, visitors and trail users alike.
The new shared path will create a safe, accessible and clearly defined connection from the townsite through to Cockatoo Valley, improving walking and cycling links while helping people move safely away from the busy Vasse and Brockman Highways. The project supports healthier lifestyles, safer travel and a more connected community, while enhancing access for pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders.
As part of these works, a small section of the town entry picket fence will need to be temporarily removed over to allow for a continuous and functional pathway connection. This is a practical step to ensure the pathway meets safety and accessibility requirements while integrating with the existing network.
Importantly, the Shire recognises the strong sense of community ownership in the character and charm of the picket fence as a welcoming entry statement to Nannup. The removal of this section is not the end of the story—work is underway to explore future entry statement design options, with a discovery and design process to be shared with the community soon.
Thank you for your patience and understanding while these essential works progress. The Southern Bridges Shared Path is a significant milestone for Nannup and a shared win for our community—improving safety, connectivity and the way we move through and into our town.
This project was made possible through a collaborative funding partnership between the Shire of Nannup, the Western Australian Government’s Western Australian Bicycle Network (WABN) Grant Program, and the Australian Government through the Regional Recovery Partnership Program and the Active Transport Fund.
