Council Endorses NARTL Master Plan to Shape Nannup’s Future
At its Ordinary Council Meeting on 28 August 2025, the Shire of Nannup endorsed the Nannup Arts, Recreation, Tourism and Liveability (NARTL) Master Plan—an ambitious blueprint for the town’s future growth and resilience.
The NARTL Master Plan outlines a strategic vision to diversify Nannup’s economy, enhance community wellbeing, and celebrate cultural heritage, particularly in response to the closure of the timber industry. Developed with extensive community input and professional consultation, the plan proposes upgrades to sporting facilities, housing options, tourism infrastructure, and cultural spaces.
The Nannup Shire Council is committed to key actions including:
- Ongoing engagement with landowners;
- Annual budgeting for implementation, starting with the Sport and Recreation Precinct;
- Technical studies to support precinct development;
- Support for the Golf Club’s future planning;
- Collaboration with Aboriginal consultative bodies to incorporate First Nation heritage signage, especially along the Blackwood River.
With a projected development cost of $297 million, the plan will be delivered in stages, supported by external funding and private investment. The NARTL Master Plan aligns with the Shire’s Strategic Community Plan 2021–2036 and reinforces Nannup’s commitment to sustainable development, inclusivity, and cultural recognition.
This milestone positions Nannup as a forward-thinking community ready to embrace opportunity while honouring its unique identity.
