Nannup came alive over the weekend as more than 2,000 riders from around the world rolled into town for the SEVEN Gravel Race, bringing energy, colour and a strong sense of community to the township.
As part of the UCI Gravel World Series, the event continues to grow in scale and reputation, attracting participants from nearly 30 countries who come to experience Nannup’s stunning rolling hills, forest trails and Blackwood Valley landscapes.
But beyond the world-class cycling, the real success story of the weekend was the activation of local community groups and volunteers, who played a vital role in creating a welcoming and vibrant event atmosphere.
Community at the Centre
Local organisations embraced the opportunity to be involved, raising funds and building visibility through hands-on participation:
- Nannup Primary School P&C coordinated event parking, raising just under $4,000 to support school initiatives.
- Lions Club of Nannup and the Cundinup Progress Association hosted well-supported sausage sizzles at key locations, drawing steady crowds.
- Additional community groups benefited through the Containers for Change initiative, demonstrating simple but effective ways to generate funds.
These efforts highlight how major events can deliver direct, tangible benefits to local groups, while strengthening connections across the community.
A Vibrant Visitor Experience
Across the weekend, an influx of riders and spectators brought strong activity to the town centre, with local businesses experiencing steady trade. Creative shopfront displays and a welcoming atmosphere contributed to a lively, inclusive experience for both visitors and residents.
With thousands of visitors travelling to the region and significant economic benefits flowing to local businesses, the event reinforces Nannup’s growing reputation as a premier cycling and events destination.
Building Capacity and Looking Ahead
Importantly, the SEVEN Gravel Race is not just about sport—it is about building community capacity. The event created meaningful opportunities for volunteering, fundraising and collaboration, aligning with the Shire of Nannup Community Strategic Plan focus on social connection, participation and support for local organisations.
A community debrief session will be held on Monday, 8 June, providing an opportunity for volunteers, groups and residents to share feedback and help shape future events, including preparations for the UCI Gravel World Championships in October.
Community members are encouraged to attend and contribute constructive ideas to ensure Nannup continues to deliver exceptional experiences for both locals and visitors.
A Showcase of Place and People
With more than 2,000 riders tackling the course and experiencing Nannup’s unique landscapes, the weekend once again showcased the town’s spectacular natural beauty, welcoming spirit and strong community pride—the very qualities that continue to draw the world to Nannup.
