Community Expression of Interest
Help Shape Nannup’s Welcome
The Shire of Nannup is seeking community expressions of interest to help inform the design of welcoming entry statements at the northern and southern gateways to town.
We’re inviting ideas, concepts and creative expressions that reflect Nannup’s identity, heritage and natural beauty, and that can guide future design development.
About the Project
Entry statements are visual features that mark arrival into a town. They help create a strong first impression, communicate identity, and set the tone for visitors and locals alike.
As part of future streetscape and place‑making initiatives, the Shire of Nannup is exploring options for entry statements at two key locations. At this early stage, we’re seeking community ideas and design directions rather than finished or technical designs.
The concepts received through this Expression of Interest process will help inform the next phase of the project, which may include refinement by local and/or external designers or artists.
A Community‑Inspired Welcome
Nannup’s character is shaped by its people, history and landscape. Community input is essential to ensuring that any future entry statements:
- Reflect local heritage and stories
- Celebrate the natural environment
- Feel authentic and timeless
- Create pride for the community
We are particularly interested in ideas that represent what makes Nannup unique.
Potential Locations
Community expressions of interest should consider one or both of the following locations:
Priority Location 1
📍 North Entrance — pull‑in bay on the northern side of town
Priority Location 2
📍 Southern Entrance — potentially near the existing business board area
Concepts may respond specifically to one location or provide a coordinated approach across both.
Design Considerations
Expressions of interest should be guided by the following themes and principles:
- Local Heritage – reflecting Nannup’s history, stories and identity
- Natural Environment – responding to landscape, flora and setting
- Nannup Identity – incorporating the town name in a thoughtful way
- Sculptural Style – freestanding or sculptural elements
- Lighting – solar‑based lighting that enhances visibility and safety
- Garden Integration – landscaping as a core component of the design
- Timeless Design – avoiding trends that date quickly
- Seasonality – allowing for seasonal planting or subtle changes over time
Designs may be literal or abstract and do not need to be fully resolved.
Who Can Participate
Expressions of interest are welcome from:
- Local artists and designers
- Community members
- Creative collectives
- Landscape designers
- Anyone with a strong connection to Nannup
Collaborative and early‑stage ideas are encouraged.
What We’d Like to See
Submissions may include:
- A brief written description of your idea or concept
- Rough sketches, images or visual references (optional)
- An explanation of how your idea reflects Nannup
- Indication of which location(s) the concept relates to
This is an ideas‑based Expression of Interest, not a request for detailed construction drawings or costings.
Next Steps
All expressions of interest will be reviewed to identify strong themes, ideas and opportunities. These may be:
- Used to inform design development
- Further refined with contributors
- Incorporated into future artist or designer briefs
Submitting an expression of interest does not guarantee selection or commissioning.
