New Heritage Sponsorship Secured for Five New Oral History Recordings

The Shire of Nannup is delighted to announce that we have secured a Heritage Sponsorship Agreement with the Heritage Council of Western Australia, providing $5,830 (ex GST) in funding to continue our much‑loved Voices of Nannup Oral History Project.

This funding ensures the recording of five new oral history stories, expanding our growing collection of Nannup voices and preserving our unique local heritage for generations to come. These stories will be captured during the 2026 Heritage Festival (18–26 April 2026), a period when the town transforms into a vibrant hub of history, culture, and community connection.

Following the success of last year’s series, the 2026 recordings will once again be produced by Simple Ben Stories, with interviewing led by the now‐well‑known and much‑loved Andrea Alexander, whose warm and thoughtful approach has been instrumental to the project’s popularity.

Call for Participants – Tell Your Nannup Story

The Shire is now inviting community members to nominate themselves or someone else to take part in this year’s recordings. We’re looking for people who are willing to bravely share their stories, memories and experiences—large or small—that help paint the picture of life in Nannup.

Whether you’re a long‑time resident, new to town, connected to local culture, farming, arts, business, community groups, or hold a story that deserves to be heard—we would love to hear from you.

Where the Stories Will Be Shared

As part of the extended Heritage Festival program, all 20 existing oral histories will be available for listening at:

  • The Historical Society,
  • The Nannup Clock Tower, and
  • The Nannup Library.

Or listen on the Shire of Nannup Website: Listen to the Stories

A Continuing Celebration of Local Voices

This sponsorship strengthens our ability to build a rich and inclusive record of community heritage. We thank the Heritage Council of Western Australia for its continued support and recognition of the project’s cultural importance.
