Australians across the country will come together on 26 January to reflect, respect and celebrate the strength and spirit of their local communities. More than 400 community events will be held nationwide, supported by the National Australia Day Council, including Nannup’s much‑loved annual celebrations.
The Shire of Nannup, together with local businesses and community organisations, invites everyone to Foreshore Park for a vibrant program of events that celebrate what it means to be Australian and honour the unique character of our community.
Festivities begin on Saturday 24 January with a FREE outdoor movie night at Foreshore Park. In collaboration with the Nannup Cinema Club, the National Australia Day Council and the Shire of Nannup, the evening opens at 6.45pm with the screening of the Australian classic Red Dog. Gates open at 7.00pm and the movie commences at 8.00pm under the stars.
The official Australia Day celebrations, on Monday 26 January, commence at 8.00am with a Welcome to Country by Wardandi Cultural Custodian Mitchella Hutchins. This year’s partnership with the Nala Boodja Eco Clan Aboriginal Corporation brings the Healing Spirit program back to Foreshore Park.
The morning will include live music from The Black Stump Project, free barista coffee (BYO keep cup), and opportunities for everyone to contribute to the Healing Spirit community land art. All of this takes place along the stunning backdrop of the Blackwood River, a site of deep significance to the Wardandi and Bibbulmun peoples and long celebrated as Nannup’s “Stopping Place”.
Deputy Shire President Cr Vicki Hansen said that Australia Day is a time for connection and celebration.
“Every year since 1996, the Shire of Nannup has gathered for a community breakfast and the Citizen of the Year Awards. These awards shine a light on the great work our community members do, often quietly and behind the scenes, to build vibrancy, resilience and care for one another.”
The celebrations continue on Tuesday 27 January with the Australia Day Splash—a free, family‑friendly morning of summer fun. Foreshore Park transforms into a water playground featuring three bouncy castles with water play, backyard cricket, snacks for everyone and plenty of space to relax with a picnic. Families of all ages are invited to cool off, connect and enjoy a splash‑tastic summer morning by the river. Guests are encouraged to bring a hat, sunscreen and a picnic rug.
This year’s program once again honours Australia’s cultural richness and the enduring connection between First Nations people and Country. Nannup’s identity, shaped by history, community spirit and shared belonging, remains at the heart of every celebration.
