Safe Tradies & DIY: Preventing Fires Around Hot Works, Power Tools, Batteries and Machinery

Published on Wednesday, 25 February 2026 at 9:38:10 AM

March often brings ongoing heat and dry conditions. As more people tackle home maintenance, property clean‑ups, and outdoor projects, the risk of fires caused by hot works, power tools, machinery and batteries increases. By staying alert and following safe work practices, we can help protect our families, neighbours, and the wider Nannup community.

Know the Restrictions – They’re There to Keep Our Community Safe

🔥 PROHIBITED BURN PERIOD – NOW IN EFFECT

Strictly no burning of any kind. This includes:

  • Campfires, fire pits, and cooking fires
  • Burning garden waste or other material

If you see a fire, call 000 immediately.
Full details are available on the Shire website.

🚜 HARVEST & VEHICLE MOVEMENT BANS (HVMB)

HVMBs are issued by Local Government and are:

  • Officially broadcast on ABC Radio, and
  • Posted on the Shire of Nannup website and Facebook page

These bans affect all off‑road vehicles, machinery, and equipment.
Operators are responsible for checking restrictions and ensuring equipment cannot start a fire.
Ignoring a ban may lead to fines and puts lives and property at risk.

🔥 TOTAL FIRE BANS (TFB)

TFBs are declared by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services.
You can check current TFBs easily using the Emergency WA app.

📱 Stay Informed

  • Install the Emergency WA app for alerts and Total Fire Ban notifications
