What are Planned Mitigation Burns?

Over the cooler months when risks are lower you will notice more planned mitigation burns taking place.  One of the ways we help reduce the risk of bushfires in our area is through planned mitigation burns. These burns are carefully conducted to reduce excess fuel in the landscape, which can help slow the spread and intensity of a fire should one occur.

Many mitigation burns are carried out by our local volunteer fire brigades, who are well trained and experienced. This work not only helps protect our community but also allows volunteers to practise skills that are vital during the bushfire season.

Mitigation burns are usually completed in small, planned patches, rather than burning large areas all at once. This mosaic approach ensures that plenty of unburnt areas remain, providing important refuges and movement corridors for local wildlife. Burns are undertaken at low intensity and only when weather and ground conditions are suitable, to minimise impacts and ensure safety.

We appreciate the community’s understanding and support as these important works continue to build resilience against bushfire risk.
